Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Unpaid Volunteer Treasurer to join our non-profit organization. This vital leadership role offers an opportunity to contribute your accounting expertise to support our mission and ensure the financial health of our organization. As Treasurer, you will oversee all financial activities, maintain accurate records, and provide transparent financial reporting to our board and stakeholders. Your commitment will help us achieve our goals while gaining valuable experience in non-profit financial management.

Duties

Manage the organization’s financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar systems.
Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts regularly to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing and expense tracking.
Maintain detailed journal entries, perform account analysis, and ensure proper double-entry bookkeeping practices.
Assist with budgeting processes, financial planning, and forecasting to support organizational growth.
Support payroll processing and tax-related activities as needed, ensuring compliance with governmental regulations.

Requirements

Proven experience in accounting or bookkeeping within non-profit or corporate settings; familiarity with public accounting is a plus.
Strong proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms; experience with QuickBooks and Quicken preferred.
Knowledge of GAAP standards, governmental accounting practices, and technical accounting concepts.
Ability to perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations accurately.
Experience with payroll processing, tax preparation, and account reconciliation tasks.
Excellent understanding of debits & credits, journal entries, general ledger management, and double-entry bookkeeping principles.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Basic typing skills (10 key) for data entry; familiarity with financial report writing is advantageous.
