Job Overview:
As an Underwriter at Neighborhood Loans, you will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting residential mortgage loans that fall outside traditional qualification guidelines along with other loan types. You will ensure loans meet our company's policies and investor guidelines while managing risk and adhering to compliance standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in 6 underwriting and a strong understanding of alternative-lending products.

Responsibilities:

Review and underwrite multiple loan types, ensuring compliance with company and investor guidelines.
Analyze loan files, including credit, income, assets, and property, to make sound lending decisions.
Assess and verify income documentation, including non-traditional income sources such as bank statements, asset depletion, or self-employment income.
Work closely with loan originators and processors to gather additional documentation as needed.
Evaluate loan-to-value ratios, debt-to-income ratios, and other risk factors.
Approve, suspend, or decline loan applications and provide detailed explanations for decisions.
Maintain knowledge of program guidelines and stay updated on changes in regulations and lending practices.
Ensure loans comply with federal and state regulations, as well as company policies.
Communicate effectively with all parties involved in the loan process, offering solutions to potential issues and maintaining a customer-centric approach.

Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting.
Encompass Experience
Strong understanding of program guidelines, loan programs, and alternative documentation requirements.
Familiarity with loan origination systems (LOS) and automated underwriting systems (AUS).
Knowledge of federal and state mortgage regulations and compliance standards.
Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to assess risk accurately.
Effective communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

DE (Direct Endorsement) or LAPP/SAR certifications are a plus.
Experience working with products such as bank statement loans, asset-based loans, or investor cash flow loans.
Bilingual skills are a plus
