Decatur County Hospital, a trusted Critical Access Hospital serving southern Iowa, is seeking a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Physician to step into a high-visibility Medical Director role within our outpatient clinic.

This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on clinical care with meaningful leadership in a setting where your decisions directly improve access, quality, and continuity for the patients who rely on local care.

What You’ll Do

As Medical Director, you’ll lead both care delivery and operational improvement across our outpatient clinic:

Lead clinic operations to improve access, continuity, and patient experience
Partner with admin leadership to streamline workflows and remove barriers to care
Drive CAH-aligned quality initiatives (patient safety, compliance, performance metrics)
Develop and mentor a strong team culture across providers and staff
Represent outpatient services in strategic planning and hospital leadership forums

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

In your first year, you’ll be positioned to make a real mark by:
Building trust and alignment across providers, staff, and leadership
Identifying the top 2–3 operational bottlenecks and implement improvements
Strengthening care coordination across outpatient + inpatient + community settings
Establishing consistent quality and workflow standards that support growth and stability

Qualifications

MD or DO with Board Certification in Internal Medicine
Active or eligible medical license in Iowa
Minimum 3 years of clinical experience (leadership experience preferred)
Strong understanding of rural health / Critical Access operations (or willingness to learn)
Proven ability to lead teams, build relationships, and drive change
Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
