Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Controller to serve as a strategic business partner to the Business Manager and leadership team. This role is responsible for leading all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, human resources administration, risk management and information systems support functions.
The Controller will play a critical leadership role in driving financial performance, improving operational visibility through reporting and analytics, developing administrative team members, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the achievement of company-wide goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who combines strong financial expertise with operational acumen, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership
· Learn and understand the company vision and business philosophies and become a key influencer in executing organizational goals.
· Serve as a trusted advisor to the Business Manager and department leaders on financial planning, analysis, forecasting, and business performance.
· Provide leadership and guidance that supports profitable growth across all divisions.
· Develop strong working relationships with managers to improve communication, accountability, and decision-making.
Team Leadership & Development

Financial Management & Accounting
· Oversee all accounting functions, including:
- General ledger management
- Financial reporting
- Accounts receivable
- Accounts payable
- Cash management
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Month-end and year-end close
· Partner with external CPA firms and advisors to implement tax planning strategies.
· Ensure accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information.
· Maintain strong internal controls and financial processes.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
Support the annual budgeting process and completion of the company budget no later than January 15 each year.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in coordinating revenue, direct expense, and indirect expense budgets across all divisions.
- Providing managers with the tools and reports necessary to build accurate budgets.
- Review hiring plans and staffing ladders for alignment with budget goals.
- Support final budget recommendations to leadership for approval and implementation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Monthly Reporting
· Ensure timely and accurate month-end close processes.
· Produce monthly Profit & Loss statements and supporting analysis.
· Facilitate monthly financial review meetings no later than the 15th of each month.
· Support budget owners in analyzing performance against goals.
· Provide meaningful insights and recommendations for improving financial results.
Expense Management
· Manage all indirect expense accounts and related budget watchdog processes.
· Monitor spending against budget targets.
· Ensure timely and accurate payment of all company expenses.
· Implement reporting tools that improve visibility and accountability.
Human Resources Administration
Support and oversee critical HR functions, including:
- Payroll administration
- Recruiting and hiring support
- Compliance management
- Performance management systems
- Employee records administration
Specific responsibilities include:
Ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing.
Maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
Managing:
- OSHA reporting
- DUA reporting
- 401(k)/IRA administration
- Form 5500 filings
- PTO administration
- New hire compliance
· Supporting recruiting goals and recruitment tracking.
· Coordinating employee performance review processes.
Risk Management
· Manage company insurance programs and vendor relationships.
· Support risk reduction initiatives through education and process improvement.
· Oversee:
- Workers' Compensation
- General Liability
- Auto Insurance
- Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI)
· Partner with vendors to achieve optimal service levels and cost control.
Payroll Administration
· Process weekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees.
· Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee compensation information.
· Verify payroll accuracy through timesheet reconciliation and labor reporting.
· Coordinate with payroll providers to ensure:
- Direct deposit setup
- Tax reporting and payment
- W-2 preparation and distribution
· Ensure annual 1099 reporting is completed by January 31.
Information Technology & Systems Support
· Support implementation and optimization of company software systems.
· Partner with departments to improve reporting and KPI visibility.
· Assist with project planning and system enhancements.
· Ensure software, data, and facility security standards are maintained.
· Lead efforts to improve reporting automation and business intelligence capabilities.
Qualifications
Required
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
· 5+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
· 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting and administrative teams.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and internal controls.
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred
· CPA designation preferred.
· Experience in service-based, construction, landscaping, field service, or multi-division operations.
· Experience with HR administration and payroll management.
· Experience implementing reporting systems, dashboards, and KPl-driven management practices.
Success Measures
The successful Controller will:
· Produce timely and accurate monthly financial reporting.
· Maintain effective weekly management reporting systems.
· Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
· Support achievement of company financial goals.
· Support delivery of an approved annual budget by January 15
· Improve visibility, accountability, and operational decision-making through reporting and analysis.
· Develop a high-performing accounting and administrative team.
· Ensure compliance with all financial, payroll, HR, and regulatory requirements.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
