Role Overview
Are you a highly skilled Traffic Signal or ITS Technician who is ready to step out of the daily maintenance routine and into a role where you drive the solution?
As a Traffic Applications & Systems Specialist, you will bridge the gap between technical hands-on field support and consultative sales. You will act as the technical face of Blackstar across Louisiana and Mississippi—meeting with city, parish, county, and state DOT partners, demonstrating our equipment, and providing top-tier product setup and customer support.
What You’ll Do (Role Accountabilities)1. Technical Support & Cabinet Integration
- Cabinet & Device Setup: Provide expert on-site programming, configuration, installation support, and troubleshooting for modern intersection equipment—specifically focusing on Swarco cabinets and controllers, NoTraffic detection sensors, and PedSafety pushbuttons.
- Product Programming: Handle the direct programming and field-mapping of traffic controllers and detection software to ensure everything operates seamlessly at the intersection.
- Technical Training & Problem Solving: Act as the go-to technical support resource for customers over the phone and in the field. Lead practical, hands-on training sessions (typically for groups of 5–10 agency technicians or contractors) on how to program and maintain our equipment.
2. Consultative Sales & Partner Collaboration
- Relationship Building: Meet with public agency traffic divisions, municipal engineers, and contractors to introduce Blackstar’s advanced traffic solutions.
- Manufacturer Collaboration: Identify what the customer needs on-site, then collaborate directly with our manufacturing partners to put together the right project plans and equipment packages.
- Live Product Demonstrations: Conduct real-world, on-site technical demos of AI-based detection systems, controllers, and pedestrian safety devices to show potential clients how they work in real-time.
- Project Tracking: Document client needs, support cases, and upcoming opportunities inside our CRM system to keep projects on schedule.
What It Takes to Succeed (Key Attributes)
- The "People-First" Mindset: You communicate clearly and comfortably with everyone from roadside maintenance crews and contractors to city traffic engineers.
- A Problem-Solver: You love troubleshooting and getting modern hardware/software to play nice together inside a live traffic cabinet.
- Field Comfortable: Willingness to work outdoors on active transportation corridors and near live traffic during equipment rollouts and field demos.
