Forestry & Ecology Coordinator

Full-Time | Hourly (35–40 hours/week) | Year-Round

Do you have a passion for forestry, ecology, conservation, and connecting people with the natural world? Norskedalen is seeking a collaborative, energetic, and hands-on Forestry & Ecology Coordinator to help care for our beautiful grounds while inspiring guests of all ages to become thoughtful environmental stewards.

This unique position blends land stewardship, environmental education, and community engagement. You'll spend your time maintaining and enhancing our forests and natural spaces, developing engaging educational programs, leading outreach efforts, and helping create memorable experiences for visitors throughout the year.

Working closely with the Executive Director, staff, and volunteers, you'll play an important role in advancing Norskedalen's mission of preserving history, celebrating nature, and fostering lifelong learning.

What You'll Do

Steward Our Natural Spaces

Collaborate with the Maintenance Coordinator to maintain safe, attractive, and welcoming grounds.
Develop and implement strategies that promote the long-term health and ecological balance of Norskedalen's forests, prairies, and natural landscapes.
Support habitat management and conservation efforts that benefit both visitors and wildlife.

Inspire Through Education

Develop and present engaging educational programs focused on forestry, ecology, and environmental stewardship.
Collaborate with staff, volunteers, schools, and community partners to expand educational opportunities.
Lead or assist with school programs, guided tours, guest speakers, and interpretive experiences for visitors of all ages.

Build Community Through Events

Lead the planning and implementation of signature forestry and ecology events, including the popular Candlelight Hike and related programs.
Support museum-wide festivals, educational events, and fundraising activities.
Recruit, train, and work alongside volunteers to create meaningful visitor experiences.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is curious, organized, and passionate about conservation and environmental education. They enjoy working both outdoors and with people, can manage multiple projects, and are excited to share their knowledge with diverse audiences.

Qualifications include:

Postsecondary education and/or equivalent professional experience in forestry, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, education, or a related field.
Strong communication and public speaking skills with the ability to engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs or community events.
Comfort using Microsoft Office and other technology to support programming and record keeping.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.
Ability to climb a short ladder when needed.
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends for programs and special events.
