Full Job Description

Job Title: Medicare Biller – Hospice

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medicare Biller to join our hospice team. The Medicare Biller will be responsible for managing all aspects of billing and claims processing for Medicare and other payers, ensuring compliance with regulations and timely reimbursement. This role requires expertise in hospice billing, a strong understanding of Medicare guidelines, and excellent organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Billing and Claims Management:
Prepare and submit accurate Medicare claims for hospice services in accordance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations.
Process and submit claims to secondary payers as necessary.
Verify that all necessary documentation is complete and meets billing requirements before claim submission.
Payment Posting and Reconciliation:
Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts in a timely and accurate manner.
Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies to ensure proper payment allocation.
Denials and Appeals:
Review and manage claim denials or rejections, identifying issues and correcting errors promptly.
Prepare and submit appeals for denied claims, including compiling necessary supporting documentation.
Compliance and Record Maintenance:
Ensure compliance with Medicare regulations, hospice-specific billing guidelines, and HIPAA standards.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient account records and billing documentation.
Communication and Collaboration:
Collaborate with clinical staff and other departments to resolve billing issues or discrepancies.
Communicate with patients and families regarding billing inquiries, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
Reporting and Analysis:
Generate reports on accounts receivable, aging, and reimbursement trends for management review.
Analyze billing processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, accounting, or related field (preferred).
Minimum of [2-3] years of experience in hospice billing, with expertise in Medicare regulations and guidelines.
Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding as it relates to hospice care.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.

Working Conditions:

May involve occasional extended hours to meet deadlines or address urgent billing issues.
