Position Description
Transportation Engineer Tech I
Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Transportation Engineer Tech II
Performs intermediate design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer Tech I
Performs basic design work.
Prepares field notes.
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer Tech II
Includes all essential duties listed for Transportation Engineer Tech I as well as:
Performs intermediate design work.
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Transportation Engineer Tech I
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Transportation Engineer Tech II
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: 2 Yrs. in Drafting, design, or plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Transportation Engineer Tech I and II
Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
Required to wear protective gear - respirator, hard hat, or other devices
Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Hearing - perceive sound at normal speaking levels;receive information by oral communication
Repetitive Motion - substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
Visual Acuity - operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
