Full Job Description

Job Description

The successful candidate will serve as an Environmental Compliance Specialist in support of environmental compliance programs for the Environmental Division, Fort Gordon, GA. The candidate will perform the following tasks onsite at Fort Gordon:

· Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations and permit requirements to include the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Fort Gordon RCRA Part B Permit as well as Army Regulation 200-1.

· Conduct monthly inspections of hazardous waste storage areas and satellite accumulation areas to ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and universal waste.

· Assist with inspections of air emissions sources (e.g., generators), paint booths, ozone depleting substances (ODS), and potential to emit (PTE). Support preparation of semi-annual air compliance reports.

· Conduct inspections of aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) and underground storage tanks (USTs). Identify and report deficiencies for corrective action.

· Following identification of non-compliances, provide technical assistance to facility managers and installation personnel to correct non-compliances. Conduct follow-up visits to ensure corrective action.

· Assist with coordinating the shipment and disposal of waste.

· Coordinate and provide waste management and spill prevention training to soldiers and facility personnel.

· Update and maintain environmental compliance documents, standard operating procedures, records, databases, correspondence, and other files in accordance with regulatory and permit requirements.

· Prepare reports, briefings, and educational materials and attend meetings, as requested.

Specific Qualifications

· Two (2) years of experience in environmental compliance. A degree in Environmental Science, or related field, is desired but not required.

· 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is desired, ability to obtain is required.

· Experience conducting environmental compliance inspections and training. Experience with the military is desired.

· Knowledge of applicable Federal and State regulations and ability to understand and implement permit requirements.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong MS Office and database management skills.

· A valid state driver’s license.

· The ability to conduct day-long inspections which requires long periods of walking around Fort Gordon sites with varying terrain and weather conditions. Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

· Able to pass a government background investigation/obtain favorable National Agency Check with Inquiry (NACI) and drug screening.
