Full Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Engineering Design Technician / Technical Design Specialist to support complex engineering design projects within the power generation industry. This role functions as a technical lead, design specialist, and/or supervisory resource responsible for applying advanced technical expertise to solve challenging design problems and support the development of innovative engineering solutions.

The successful candidate will utilize advanced digital design tools, including CAD and 3D modeling software, to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and engineering deliverables. This position will ensure technical quality, schedule compliance, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams while supporting project objectives.

The role will provide technical guidance to engineering technicians and design staff, oversee design activities, and promote consistent application of engineering standards, procedures, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a lead technical resource for engineering design and drafting activities within assigned projects.
Develop, communicate, and enforce design standards, drafting practices, and graphic requirements.
Review project requirements to determine appropriate deliverable formats, content, and documentation standards.
Perform quality reviews of engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Coordinate design deliverables across multiple engineering disciplines to ensure consistency and integration.
Apply engineering fundamentals and established design practices to develop complex technical solutions.
Provide technical direction, mentoring, and guidance to engineering technicians and design team members.
Monitor project deliverables to maintain quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
Establish and maintain drawing control procedures, document management practices, and historical project records.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by developing and improving design tools, workflows, and software applications.
Assist with field activities, site support, and project implementation as required.
Communicate project requirements, progress updates, technical issues, and schedules with project teams and stakeholders.
Support development of innovative engineering solutions within the power generation design environment.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or related technical discipline.
Minimum of 15 years of related engineering design experience.
Experience supporting power generation, industrial, or large-scale energy projects.
Advanced experience with 3D modeling of engineering systems and equipment.
Experience designing or supporting:
Equipment layouts
Duct bank systems
Cable tray routing
Grounding systems
Electrical layouts
Industrial infrastructure designs
Strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical documentation, and design coordination processes.
Ability to review and interpret engineering requirements, specifications, and design inputs.
Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and support junior designers or technicians.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Design Technology or related discipline.
Experience with power generation facilities, energy infrastructure, or industrial plant design.
Experience with Bentley MicroStation.
Experience with AGI or similar engineering design applications.
Experience developing CAD standards, templates, and design workflows.
Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering coordination.
