Biospecimen Coordinator I

Job Type: Contract (6 Months with potential extension based on performance and business needs)
Location: Onsite - 1910 East Innovation Park Drive Oro Valley AZ 85755 United States
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Overtime may be required based on business needs)
Pay Rate: $30.00/hour
Education Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Biospecimen Coordinator I to support daily operations within the BioSample Management Group. This onsite role is responsible for coordinating biospecimen workflows, including sample receipt, accessioning, quality control checks, documentation, shipment coordination, and maintaining accurate chain of custody records. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

Receive, open, review, and triage incoming biospecimen shipments, ensuring samples are routed to the appropriate testing locations.
Perform sample accessioning activities and verify demographic data entry accuracy through quality control checks.
Maintain accurate documentation and chain of custody records throughout sample handling processes.
Communicate with clients regarding held, rejected, or delayed samples and assist with issue resolution.
Perform sample labeling activities and conduct final quality checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Support pathology operations by imaging stained slides and ensuring deliverables are completed within required timelines.
Coordinate internal and external sample shipment requests, including global sample logistics.
Monitor and manage team inbox activities to ensure requests are properly tracked, prioritized, and completed.
Participate in process improvement initiatives and assigned workflow enhancement projects within the BioSample Management Group.
Perform additional operational and administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
1–5 years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, biospecimen management, sample coordination, healthcare, or related environments.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy in documentation and data entry.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to troubleshoot issues and apply critical thinking to resolve problems.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with biospecimen management, sample accessioning, or laboratory sample processing.
Experience using LIMS or other sample tracking systems.
Familiarity with chain of custody procedures and specimen documentation requirements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
Experience working in a clinical, research, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical environment.
