Full Job Description

Overview:

Do you like to live wild? Do you have a passion for hunting, fishing and everything outdoors? If so, we're “on the hunt” for an experienced backcountry elk guide and field ops manager who’s part cowboy, part handyman, part explorer and all gentleman to help us manage our hunting operations in Montana and South Dakota.

This isn't a seasonal vacation job. It's for someone who takes pride in hard work, enjoys living “off the grid” and wants to play a key role in a professional, multi-destination hunting operation. In this position, you'll be responsible for scouting new areas, blazing trails, caring for horses, setting camps, maintaining equipment, and ultimately guiding hunters.

What we’re looking for:

Guide: Experienced and physically fit backcountry elk hunter with strong safety and wilderness skills.
Cowboy: Must be very comfortable riding, handling and caring for horses (or mules) in the backcountry.
Handyman: Mechanically inclined and handy with tools for general camp, ranch and vehicle maintenance.
Explorer: Must be uniquely curious about “what’s over that hill” and possess a deep desire to take a look.
Gentleman: It’s ok to be rugged but you must also be kind, considerate and congenial.

Duties Include:

Guiding hunters.
Packing, riding and caring for stock.
Setting up and maintaining wilderness camps.
Property maintenance, fencing, equipment repairs, and ranch projects.
Scouting, trail work, and helping wherever needed throughout the season.
Communicating all operational priorities to owner/outfitter.

We're looking for someone who enjoys the lifestyle as much as the hunt. The ideal person is reliable, trustworthy, respectful and able to work remotely in changing weather conditions. We need someone who can take initiative, make practical field decisions, solve problems, and lead by example. The right person is self-motivated, doesn't need to be micromanaged, and understands that outfitting means early mornings, late nights, and doing whatever the day requires.
