Vice President of Finance
Location: Houston, TX or Permian Basin, TX (Midland/Odessa) – Travel Required
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic, hands-on financial executive to join our leadership team as Vice President of Finance with a defined path to Chief Financial Officer. This role is designed for an accomplished finance leader who consistently delivers exceptional results and demonstrates the leadership, execution, and business acumen necessary to earn promotion to CFO within approximately 12 to 18 months.
Our company is entering an exciting period of growth, with plans to expand from approximately $50 million to $100 million in annual revenue over the next five years. This executive will play a critical role in building the financial infrastructure, systems, and team needed to support that growth while serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
The ideal candidate combines exceptional technical accounting and finance expertise with strong business judgment, operational partnership, and an execution-oriented leadership style. This individual thrives in a fast-paced environment, solves complex problems quickly, and has a reputation for getting critical initiatives completed on time and at a high level of quality.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Accounting
- Lead all accounting and financial reporting functions with responsibility for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Build and develop a scalable accounting organization, clearly defining roles, responsibilities, staffing plans, and performance benchmarks.
- Ensure monthly financial close is completed accurately and financial statements are issued no later than the 10th business day of each month.
- Drive initiatives to accelerate the monthly close process, including transitioning to real-time invoicing and process improvements.
- Evaluate current financial systems, processes, internal controls, and technology platforms, recommending enhancements that support continued growth.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive schedule of recurring financial deliverables to ensure deadlines are consistently met.
- Lead the annual financial audit and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
Banking & Capital Management
- Manage all banking relationships and serve as the company's primary financial representative with lending institutions.
- Continuously evaluate the strength and effectiveness of banking partnerships and proactively identify alternative financing solutions when appropriate.
- Source and negotiate favorable financing arrangements, including:
- Equipment financing
- Revolving credit facilities
- Working capital solutions
- Equity financing opportunities
- Optimize capital structure while minimizing financing costs, preserving financial flexibility, and limiting personal guarantee requirements whenever possible.
Board & Executive Reporting
- Prepare comprehensive board meeting materials that clearly communicate financial performance, strategic initiatives, and key business metrics.
- Continually improve the quality, presentation, and storytelling of executive reporting materials.
- Ensure board packages are distributed at least one week prior to scheduled meetings to allow adequate review by board members.
- Present financial results and strategic recommendations with confidence and clarity.
Strategic Finance & Business Partnership
- Partner closely with operations, sales, and executive leadership to support profitable growth and informed decision-making.
- Develop sophisticated financial models supporting capital allocation and return-on-investment decisions.
- Lead annual budgeting, long-range planning, forecasting, and cash flow management with a high degree of accuracy (target variance of ±2%).
- Provide financial analysis and operational reporting that improves business performance and organizational efficiency.
- Support mergers and acquisitions by participating in target evaluation, financial due diligence, valuation analysis, presentations, and transaction execution.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO on strategic growth initiatives and financial planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
- Progressive financial leadership experience, including senior finance or corporate controller responsibilities.
- Experience supporting high-growth organizations, preferably within industrial services, manufacturing, energy, oil & gas, or related sectors.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, controls, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Proven ability to build scalable finance organizations and improve financial processes.
- Experience managing banking relationships and negotiating commercial financing arrangements.
- M&A and transaction support experience is highly desirable.
- Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Outstanding communication and presentation abilities.
