Full Stack Java Developer

Remote

Contract to Hire

$65-75/hr

Overview

We are hiring a Full Stack Java Developer to support a large-scale application modernization initiative focused on enhancing a proprietary Paint Mixer Pro system used across retail and commercial environments. This role will be instrumental in transforming a legacy platform into a scalable, API-driven, and user-friendly application, improving performance, usability, and integration capabilities.

This is a highly visible role where you will contribute to both backend service development and modern front-end application design in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot to modernize core application functionality
Build and enhance a modern front-end interface using Next.js, improving UX for in-store and operational users
Refactor and migrate legacy components into a microservices-based architecture
Integrate the Paint Mixer Pro application with internal systems, devices, and third-party services
Collaborate with product, UX, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, end-to-end solutions
Ensure high performance, reliability, and responsiveness of both backend services and UI components
Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to maintain high engineering standards
Support deployment, enhancements, and ongoing optimization of the platform

Required Qualifications

4+ years of software development experience
Strong hands-on experience with:
Java
Spring Boot / Spring Framework
REST API development
Experience building front-end applications with Next.js, React, or similar frameworks
Understanding of API-driven architecture and microservices design
Experience integrating frontend applications with backend services
Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases
Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on application modernization or legacy system transformation projects
Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience with edge devices, retail systems, or hardware-integrated applications
Familiarity with API security practices (OAuth, JWT)
