Full Job Description

Human Resources Business Partner

Washington, DC

STARR Restaurants is seeking a bilingual Human Resources Business Partner (English/Spanish) to support our acclaimed Washington, DC restaurant portfolio, including Le Diplomate, St. Anselm, Pastis, El Presidente, The Occidental, and Osteria Mozza.

This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who is passionate about employee relations and enjoys partnering closely with restaurant operations. As the primary HR partner for the DC market, you'll work side-by-side with restaurant leaders to foster positive employee experiences, coach managers through complex workplace situations, ensure consistent application of company policies, and help create an environment where our teams can do their best work.

You'll spend the majority of your time in the restaurants, building relationships with leaders and employees, resolving workplace issues, conducting investigations, coaching managers, and serving as a trusted advisor across all aspects of the employee lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Employee Relations

Serve as the primary HR partner for restaurant leadership across the Washington, DC market.
Advise and coach managers on employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, attendance, investigations, and policy interpretation.
Conduct prompt, thorough, and objective workplace investigations while ensuring fair, consistent, and legally compliant outcomes.
Partner closely with Directors of Restaurants and restaurant leaders to address employee concerns and resolve workplace issues with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment.
Guide managers through corrective action, documentation, terminations, and other complex employment matters.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
Conduct HR compliance audits and recommend process improvements to mitigate organizational risk.
Partner closely with Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and Talent Acquisition to ensure consistent HR practices across the market.

Onboarding, Training, & Employee Experience

Partner with restaurant leadership to deliver a seamless and engaging onboarding experience for new managers and team members.
Support new restaurant openings, leadership transitions, and organizational changes across the DC market.
Build strong relationships with employees at every level by maintaining a visible presence within the restaurants.
Serve as a trusted resource for employees by helping them understand and navigate company benefits, leave programs, policies, and other available resources, connecting them with the appropriate support when needed.
Champion initiatives that enhance employee engagement, recognition, retention, and workplace culture.
Identify workforce trends and recommend proactive solutions that strengthen the employee experience and support operational success.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience supporting multi-unit restaurant, retail, or hospitality operations.
Significant employee relations experience, including workplace investigations, manager coaching, conflict resolution, and performance management.
A passion for partnering directly with operators and frontline teams.
Professional fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area or within a reasonable commuting distance, with the ability to regularly travel between restaurants throughout the market.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment while representing STARR Restaurants' values, standards, and commitment to excellence across the DC market
Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
Excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to navigate sensitive situations with confidence and professionalism.
Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence leaders at all levels.
