Hager Environmental and Atmospheric Technologies (HEAT), headquartered in Knoxville, TN, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Contractor, with the possibility of permanent hire, with at least 3 years of experience as a mechanical engineer and expertise in SolidWorks and PDM. This is NOT a remote position. This is a traveling position that requires physical strength and working outdoors. Freelancers and self-employed mechanical engineers with the required skills are also welcome to apply, as long as they are willing to travel and be available to deploy our equipment in the field. Training will be provided.

HEAT is a cutting-edge environmental company using a one-of-a-kind NASA Spinoff technology used to detect and measure on-road vehicle emissions. HEAT has made an impact worldwide with this groundbreaking remote-sensing device and is building a team to meet the demands of a growing client base.

Essential Job Functions:

Evaluate mechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility, testing methods, and testing properties.
Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product and system capabilities, and confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests and running calculations.
Maintain system and product database.
Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
Install and operate equipment in the field according to the system's manual.
Travel both in the U.S. and internationally. A passport is required.
Work with other technicians, engineers, and developers to improve and maintain the system's functionality and accuracy.

Job Requirements

Education: Minimum of 3 years experience with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or comparable work experience.
Must be proficient in Solidworks.
Must be proficient in PDM.
Must have the ability to think and work quickly while thriving in a fast-paced environment
Detail-oriented, highly organized, able to document work.
Comfortable working in a small business environment.
