THIS TEACHING POSITION BEGINS August 5, 2026.

Teaching job is located at St. Michael's High School (SMHS) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. No relocation package offered.

JOB FUNCTION:

Under the general supervision, guidance, and instruction from either the Dean of Academics, Dean of Students, the Principal, or the Department Chair, will develop curricula and create, implement, and deliver educational programs for student audiences to achieve the goals, objectives, and expectations of St. Michael’s High School. Advises, assesses, and instructs students within subject expertise. Faculty are expected to be role models for students by following and exemplifying all rules and policies, demonstrating professionalism at all times, and having a keen awareness of the safety and security preparations for a school environment in today’s society.

Position Overview: The English AND Spanish Teachers at St. Michael’s High School are responsible for providing rigorous, student-centered instruction in alignment with the school’s mission, Lasallian values, and educational philosophy. The Teacher fosters a learning environment that supports academic excellence, critical thinking, creativity, and spiritual and moral development. This role includes designing engaging curriculum, ensuring daily lesson plans are accessible, promoting literacy and effective communication, and serving as a caring mentor in accordance with the Lasallian tradition of educating the whole person.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, not limited to:

Develops lesson plans in the relevant subject area and grade, and ensures all lessons align with curriculum objectives, as applicable. Lesson plans may be reviewed by the administration at any time. This review includes daily and emergency lesson plans developed for substitute teachers.
Use a range of teaching materials and methods to deliver content.
Advises, assesses, and teaches students audiences in a variety of academic subjects.
Presents and reinforces learning concepts within a specified subject or subject area.
Answers student inquiries and resolve problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogues, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources.
Prepares students for tests, exams, presentations, experiments, and other assessments.
Monitors students’ overall wellbeing and interacts with school counselors and other staff members when there are concerns or issues.
Grades assessments and provide feedback and reports to students and parents.
Prepare appropriate documentation and reports on programs and on student progress.
Implements and supports classroom rules and safety regulations and ensuring all students understand them.
Establishes rapport and professional relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Attend staff and parent meetings to provide helpful recommendations or voice concerns.
Supervises students in class, during events, and on field trips.
Provides additional support and interventions for struggling students and extra resources to those who are ahead of the class.
Attend ongoing learning initiatives such as workshops, lectures, conferences, and other events that expand education networks.
Promote programs and may assist with recruitment of new students through networking within the school, parents, alumni, or community groups.
Participate in programs that support, grow, and encourage the Lasallian mission of the Christian Brothers.
Engage in peer-to-peer classroom observation and support to build curricular and instructional expertise within the whole team.
Commit to serving all students, including students with learning differences in the context of the regular education classroom using methods outlined in a Private School Plan (PSP), and/or with support from counselors.
Follow and adhere to all SMHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Proven and verifiable teaching experience in the Spanish language specifically in curriculums for grades 9 - 12 is imperative.
RELIGION - preferred Lasallian.
An associate’s and/or bachelor’s degree is required.
A master’s degree and/or a Ph.D. are strongly preferred for some instructional teachers but not required for standard courses.
A master’s degree is required for teaching college level preparatory classes (AP).
An applicable NM teaching license may be required for specific classes and will be verified.
Enjoy being with students in the classroom.
Understanding the importance of learning styles and teaching students as individuals.
Knowledge of progressive school software systems used to teach, record, communicate and report.
Understand and adhere to school policies and procedures.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and teach up to several hours per day.
Participate in school events outside regular hours (e.g., parent meetings, retreats, service programs, extracurricular activities).

Must be able to pass a background investigation/clearance and complete an online training module as it relates to child protection guidelines.
