Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced AS/400 (IBM i) Senior System Administrator to manage, configure, and optimize IBM Power Systems environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in IBM i system setup, OS and system configuration, LPAR creation, and performance analysis and tuning. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability, optimal performance, security, and scalability across development, test, and production environments. The candidate will also demonstrate strong partnership and leadership with offshore resources to ensure optimal client success and seamless service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
System Administration & Configuration
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) operating systems and system software
- Perform initial system setup, environment builds, and system lifecycle management
- Configure system values, subsystems, job queues, memory pools, and storage
- Apply PTFs, upgrades, and technology refreshes, ensuring minimal disruption
- Maintain and document system configurations and operational procedures
LPAR & Power Systems Management
- Design, create, and manage Logical Partitions (LPARs) on IBM Power Systems
- Allocate and adjust CPU, memory, and storage resources based on workload demands
- Perform LPAR sizing, tuning, migrations, and capacity planning
- Use HMC (Hardware Management Console) for partition and hardware administration
Performance Analysis & Tuning
- Proactively monitor and analyze system performance using IBM i performance tools
- Identify CPU, memory, disk I/O, and job-level bottlenecks
- Analyze workload performance across subsystems, job queues, and memory pools
- Tune system values, workloads, memory pools, and disk utilization to optimize throughput
- Review and analyze performance data to support capacity planning and growth forecasting
- Partner with application teams to diagnose and resolve performance-related issues
- Establish performance baselines and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Security & Access Control
- Manage user profiles, group profiles, authorities, and object-level security
- Implement security policies, auditing, and compliance controls
- Regularly review access rights and security configurations
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Configure and manage backup and recovery strategies
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution
- Work with high availability and replication solutions (e.g., PowerHA, MIMIX, or similar)
Monitoring & Operational Support
- Monitor system health, alerts, and resource utilization
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and third-level support for IBM i environments
- Participate in on-call rotations as required
Collaboration & Documentation
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and business teams
- Provide guidance and best practices for IBM i usage and performance
- Maintain accurate documentation for system configurations, performance baselines, and procedures
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience administering IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) environments
- Strong hands-on experience in:
- IBM i OS installation, setup, and configuration
- Performance analysis and tuning (CPU, memory, disk, and workload management)
- LPAR creation and management on IBM Power Systems
- Experience with HMC and PowerVM
- Solid understanding of IBM i security and object authority
- Experience managing PTFs, upgrades, and system maintenance
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IBM i performance tools (e.g., performance reports, monitoring utilities, or third-party tools)
- Exposure to PowerHA, MIMIX, or other HA/DR solutions
- Basic scripting skills (CL; RPG a plus)
- IBM certifications such as IBM Certified Administrator – IBM i
- Experience supporting mission-critical or regulated environments

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
