Full Job Description

At TLC Plumbing Heating Cooling Electrical, we’ve been putting people first for over 37 years, guided by our values of honesty, hard work, respect, compassion, and consistency. As a trusted name in New Mexico, we’re committed to service excellence and as we grow, our Risk Management team plays a key role in protecting our company, employees, and customers from legal, contractual, and compliance risks.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal to join our Risk Management team. This role supports our contracts, compliance, and claims handling to help protect the company and our employees.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform contract intake and initial review of service and construction contracts, subcontracts, and vendor agreements for completeness, risk exposure, and compliance with company standards; flag non-standard terms for attorney review.
Track insurance certificates and compliance requirements.
Docket all legal actions, deadlines, and court dates with precision; assist with case filing, case management, and resolution tracking across active litigation and pre-litigation matters; serve as primary liaison with outside counsel and insurance representatives.
Prepare, file, and release mechanics’ liens and related lien documents in accordance with New Mexico statutory deadlines; monitor lien rights across active construction projects and alert project teams of upcoming deadlines.
Research laws, regulations, and industry requirements.
Maintain organized records and legal files.
Manage the contract lifecycle management (CLM) system, including contract intake workflows, metadata entry, status tracking, and renewal/expiration alerts; assist with migration of historical contract data into Viewpoint Vista for program management purposes.
Apply independent critical thinking to identify potential legal exposure, contractual inconsistencies, and compliance gaps; escalate issues with a clear written summary of risk and recommended action.
Coordinate with project managers, field superintendents, and subcontractors to collect, verify, and maintain required contract documents, bonds, and certificates of insurance prior to and during project execution.
Support regulatory compliance activities, including preparation and tracking of responses to agency notices, notices of violation, and permit conditions.

Key Qualifications:

3+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience, preferably in construction, insurance, risk management, or a high-volume transactional/litigation environment; demonstrated experience with legal docketing systems and deadline management required.
Strong working knowledge of contracts, construction law fundamentals, mechanics’ lien statutes (New Mexico preferred), insurance requirements, and litigation support workflows.
Exceptional attention to detail; strong organizational skills and clear written and verbal communication are essential.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required; experience with contract or claims management software required; experience with Viewpoint Vista or similar construction ERP platform strongly preferred.
Associate’s degree or Paralegal Certificate.
Experience with New Mexico mechanics’ lien law and public project bond claim procedures preferred.
