Full Job Description

DB2 Replication Engineer

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite)

Pay Rate: Negotiable

Duration: 12+ Month Contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced DB2 Replication Engineer to design, implement, and support enterprise data replication solutions across IBM z/OS and distributed environments. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, real-time data synchronization, high availability, and data consistency for mission-critical business applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with DB2 for z/OS, CDC technologies, Q Replication, IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (IIDR), and mainframe-to-distributed data integration. This is a long-term hybrid opportunity requiring onsite presence three days per week in Phoenix, AZ.

Key ResponsibilitiesReplication Design & Implementation

Design, implement, configure, and maintain DB2 replication solutions across mainframe and distributed platforms
Build and support source-to-target replication pipelines for critical business data
Configure and administer replication components, including:
Capture Processes
Apply Processes
Control Servers
Implement and support:
Unidirectional replication
Bidirectional replication
Real-time and near-real-time data synchronization solutions
Ensure high availability, data integrity, and consistent replication performance

Troubleshooting & Production Support

Diagnose and resolve:
Replication failures
Data consistency issues
Queue backlogs
Network-related replication interruptions
Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
Provide L2/L3 support for production incidents and critical data replication environments
Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and database teams to resolve complex issues

Performance Optimization

Tune replication environments to:
Reduce latency
Improve throughput
Optimize resource utilization
Minimize impact on source systems
Optimize:
Data capture efficiency
Apply process performance
Network utilization
Support MIPS reduction and optimization initiatives

Integration & Data Architecture

Support integration between:
DB2 for z/OS
DB2 LUW
Distributed databases
Messaging platforms
ETL and data integration solutions
Partner with:
Database Administrators
Application Development Teams
Data Engineering Teams
Business Intelligence Teams
Support enterprise modernization and data integration initiatives

Required Qualifications

Strong experience with DB2 for z/OS environments
Hands-on experience with:
IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (IIDR)
Change Data Capture (CDC)
Q Replication (preferred)
Experience supporting:
ZDIH environments
MIPS reduction and optimization projects
Experience with:
UNIX administration
UNIX patching and maintenance
UNIX shell scripting
RACF
Strong understanding of:
Replication architecture
Data flow design
Change Data Capture concepts
Proven troubleshooting experience with:
Data consistency issues
Replication latency
Performance bottlenecks
Experience with:
JCL
TSO/ISPF
SDSF
Experience supporting mainframe batch and online production environments

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with MQ and messaging technologies
Familiarity with ETL and data warehousing platforms
Experience with enterprise monitoring and performance tools
Automation and scripting experience using:
REXX
Python
Shell scripting
Exposure to cloud and hybrid data architectures
Experience supporting:
Large-scale data migrations
Data modernization initiatives
Real-time data streaming architectures
