Full Job Description

The Schroeder Family Exploreum is the Joplin region's premier hands-on science and discovery center, dedicated to inspiring curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. Through interactive exhibits, educational programs, community partnerships, and innovative learning experiences, the Exploreum serves as a catalyst for discovery and a resource for learners of all ages.

As a growing nonprofit organization, the Exploreum seeks an energetic, strategic, and relationship-focused Director of Development and Marketing to lead fundraising, donor engagement, community outreach, and marketing efforts that support the organization's mission and long-term sustainability.

Position Summary

The Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the Exploreum's fundraising, donor relations, sponsorship, membership, marketing, and public engagement activities. This position plays a critical role in securing financial support, strengthening community awareness, cultivating meaningful partnerships, and communicating the impact of the Exploreum throughout the region.

Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community stakeholders, this individual will help build a sustainable financial foundation while elevating the Exploreum's visibility as a regional destination for STEAM learning and family engagement.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFundraising and Development

Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that supports annual and long-term organizational goals.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and community partners.
Manage annual giving campaigns, major gift initiatives, sponsorship opportunities, and special fundraising projects.
Research, write, and manage grant applications and reporting requirements for local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities.
Develop creative fundraising initiatives and donor engagement opportunities that expand philanthropic support.
Oversee donor recognition initiatives and stewardship activities that encourage long-term engagement and retention.
Coordinate donor meetings, presentations, tours, and cultivation events.
Maintain accurate donor records and ensure timely acknowledgments, impact reporting, and ongoing communications.

Marketing and Communications

Develop and execute marketing and communications strategies that increase awareness, attendance, membership, fundraising support, and community engagement.
Oversee advertising, public relations, media relations, social media platforms, website content, and digital marketing efforts.
Manage promotional materials, campaigns, newsletters, donor communications, annual reports, and other marketing collateral.
Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and visual identity across all communication channels.
Coordinate media opportunities, press releases, interviews, and community outreach efforts.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

Build and strengthen partnerships with businesses, schools, foundations, service organizations, and community leaders.
Support efforts to increase public awareness, donor engagement, and community enthusiasm for the Exploreum's mission and programs.
Assist the Executive Director and Board of Directors in developing strategic relationships that advance organizational goals.

Data Management, Reporting, and Administration

Maintain donor databases, sponsorship tracking, and marketing analytics.
Track fundraising and marketing performance metrics and prepare regular reports for leadership and the Board of Directors.
Assist in developing and monitoring development and marketing budgets.
Evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising campaigns and marketing initiatives
Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations, grant requirements, donor confidentiality standards, and nonprofit best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the organization's mission and growth.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
