Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician to perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in testing soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to work independently on construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

Perform field testing and inspection of construction materials, including soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and masonry.
Conduct density testing, moisture testing, concrete sampling, slump tests, air content tests, and other required quality control procedures.
Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
Collect and transport material samples to the laboratory for analysis.
Prepare accurate daily field reports, test reports, and documentation.
Communicate test results and observations to project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients.
Maintain testing equipment and ensure proper calibration.
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
Identify non-compliant materials or construction practices and report findings promptly.
Assist with laboratory testing and reporting as needed.
Travel to various project sites within the assigned service area.

Qualifications

Required:

High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction materials testing.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.

Preferred Certifications:

American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Testing Technician Grade I
Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Certification
NICET Level II or higher in Construction Materials Testing
TXDOT certifications (if applicable)
ICC certifications (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of ASTM, AASHTO, and project specifications.
Experience with soil compaction testing and concrete testing procedures.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting.
Ability to work on active construction sites.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and occasional night shifts as project demands require.

Pay: $20.65 - $23.48 per hour
