Position Summary
Responsible for leading the Equipment Engineering function to design, develop, and support automated equipment and machinery for multiple industrial markets. This role requires a professional who can build a cohesive engineering team, establish clear priorities and accountability, and ensure consistent execution across mechanical and electrical controls disciplines. The ideal candidate communicates clearly, sets expectations, and creates alignment both within engineering and across the organization.
Beyond people leadership, we are looking for a manager who actively drives continuous improvement in engineering practices. This includes implementing and maintaining effective design processes, CAD standards, documentation practices, and configuration control, as well as introducing tools, systems, and procedures that improve quality, efficiency, and consistency.
The successful candidate combines sufficient technical depth to guide sound engineering decisions with a strong focus on structure, discipline, collaboration, and continuous improvement. They lead by example, make timely decisions, and foster an environment of ownership, teamwork, and accountability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead and manage the Equipment Engineering team across all phases of product development, including concept, design, validation, release, and lifecycle support.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical and electrical / controls engineering disciplines.
- Ensure engineering designs meet customer specifications, applicable codes and standards, safety requirements, and internal quality standards.
- Plan and allocate engineering resources to support active projects, development initiatives, and customer commitments.
- Drive effective project execution by coordinating schedules, priorities, risks, and technical decisions.
- Interface closely with Sales, Project Management, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Suppliers, and Service to ensure alignment from quotation through delivery and support.
- Support customer technical reviews, design reviews, FAT preparation, and technical discussions as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, standardization, modularity, reliability, and cost.
- Promote sound engineering practices, documentation standards, and configuration control.
- Establish, implement, and continuously improve engineering development processes, including design reviews, release procedures, lessons learned, risk assessments, and project execution standards.
- Secure and justify engineering-related capital investments, software, tools, and training required for team effectiveness.
- Develop and manage engineering budgets related to labor, tools, and capital expenditures.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the engineering function and maintain accountability for engineering performance metrics including schedule adherence, first-pass design quality, rework rates, engineering change activity, and resource utilization.
- Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements as they apply to engineering activities.
- Recruit, develop, coach, and retain engineering talent in coordination with Human Resources and the General Manager.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and recommend compensation adjustments in line with company policies.
- Define training needs and ensure technical and professional development of the engineering team.
- Authorize departmental requisitions in accordance with company procedures.
- Approve routine engineering-related expenditures up to established authorization limits.
- Communicate effectively across the organization regarding project status, risks, and technical issues.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in an industrial equipment, automation, or machinery environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Strong background in the design, development, and deployment of automated industrial equipment, custom machinery, and electromechanical systems. Experience in automation equipment manufacturing, machine building, OEM equipment, or systems integration environments is required.
- Working knowledge of controls systems, automation architectures, and industrial standards.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects, including scope, schedule, resource planning, risk management, budgeting, and cross-functional coordination.
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
- Working knowledge of CAD systems, PDM/PLM systems, engineering documentation practices, revision control, and configuration management, with the ability to review, assess, and approve designs.
- Solid understanding of quality systems and design control principles.
- Experience with machine safety standards such as ANSI, NFPA 79, ISO 13849, UL508A, or similar industrial standards.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
