Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cytogenetics or Molecular Technologist with FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization) experience to join our dynamic clinical laboratory team. In this role, you will play a critical part in performing complex molecular diagnostic tests, including FISH assays, to support patient diagnosis and treatment. Your expertise will contribute to advancing our laboratory’s capabilities in genetic analysis, cytogenetics, and molecular pathology. The technologist supports diagnostic testing used in oncology, hematology, and genetic disease evaluation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment dedicated to innovation, accuracy, and excellence in healthcare diagnostics.

Responsibilities

Perform FISH assays accurately and efficiently, including specimen preparation, hybridization, and microscopic analysis.
Conduct DNA isolation, RNA extraction, and other molecular techniques such as PCR and ELISA to support various diagnostic tests.
Manage laboratory data through Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), ensuring precise documentation and data integrity.
Implement and monitor laboratory quality control protocols to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
Prepare specimens for cytogenetic analysis, blood banking procedures, and other clinical testing workflows.
Operate medical laboratory equipment such as flow cytometers, spectrophotometers, and microscopes with precision.
Assist in laboratory management tasks including inventory control, equipment maintenance, and workflow optimization.
Interpret diagnostic test results accurately and communicate findings clearly to the healthcare team.
Follow strict aseptic techniques during specimen collection, processing, and testing to prevent contamination.
Support clinical trials or research projects by adhering to protocol requirements and maintaining meticulous records.

Experience

Proven laboratory experience with a focus on FISH (including result quantification with a fluorescent microscope), molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, or related fields in a clinical or research setting.
Hands-on expertise with FISH techniques is essential; familiarity with other assays such as immunoassays or flow cytometry is advantageous.
Strong data management skills with proficiency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Experience in implementing laboratory quality control protocols and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards such as CLIA or CAP.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, hematology, and blood banking procedures relevant to clinical diagnostics.
Ability to interpret complex diagnostic tests within the context of patient care and research objectives.
Familiarity with laboratory procedures including, specimen processing, and blood sampling techniques.
Excellent understanding of laboratory techniques involving PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, immunoassays, flow cytometry, and other molecular methods.
Prior hospital or clinical laboratory experience that demonstrates adaptability within fast-paced healthcare environments is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensing as a cytogenetics or molecular pathology technologist, with commensurate experience.
Familiarity with oncology FISH panels (HER2, ALK, BCR-ABL1, MYC, etc.).
Experience working in CLIA/CAP accredited laboratories.
