American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed Pediatrics/Med-Surg Telemetry unit requiring both adult and pediatric patient care experience, with telemetry competency and dysrhythmia exam passage required.

Mixed Pediatrics and Med-Surg Telemetry (MST) unit in an acute care hospital setting
-
Unit has 10 beds with patient ratios of 1:3–4 for Pediatrics and 1:5 for MST
-
Pediatric patients include respiratory illnesses (RSV, influenza, COVID), seizures, dehydration, appendectomy, and failure to thrive (med-surg acuity level only — no feeding tubes, trachs, or vents)

Adult MST patients include surgical cases (total hip/knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory lap) and medical cases (MRSA, C-diff, COPD, pneumonia, COVID, chest pain/telemetry)

High-flow oxygen administration for stabilization and BiPAP management for stable adult patients with chronic conditions

Telemetry monitoring present for adult MST patients; Remote Monitor Techs available, but RNs must be able to read their own telemetry strips; bedside monitors available for pediatric patients

12-hour day shifts (0700–1930)

Every other weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday for day shift)

First to float; floating required to MCU or MST unit for adult patients, and to the birthing unit for mom-baby couplet care (L&D float available for those with L&D experience)

Low-census standby rotation in place

Holiday rotation required

Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS — pending certifications not accepted

Minimum 3 years of RN experience required

Adult Med-Surg Telemetry (MST) experience required

Experience working with pediatric patients required

Ability to care for both adult and pediatric patient populations
-
Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) within two attempts prior to offer confirmation
-
2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Valid driver's license required

Provides nursing care for a combined pediatric and adult MST population — traveler must be prepared to care for more adult patients than pediatric patients at times, depending on census

Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds encompassing MST, Pediatrics, and an Acuity Adaptable MCU (admits ICU/PCU/MST patients)

Nurse aides carry a caseload of 10 patients; when no NA is available, RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care

Drip titration is not required for this position

A sterile technique skills test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation — must be passed

Profile review and manager interview required

Orientation is 12 hours, with unit orientation tailored to experience level
-
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — driver's license is used to verify permanent address

Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

Navy scrubs required
