System Administrator II — Field & Remote IT Support
Managed Technology Services

As a leader in Managed Technology Services we are growing fast and need to grow our team of IT professionals that can stand on their own at a client site. This role is hands-on: you'll be the person clients call when something's broken, and the person we trust to figure it out.

What you'll actually do

Most of our client environments are small and straightforward — think a couple of switches, two or three servers, a handful of access points, and a router/firewall. The job isn't memorizing exotic systems; it's being the kind of tech who can walk into one of these networks, methodically isolate where the problem is (cabling, switch, server, DNS/DHCP, ISP, wireless), and fix it or clearly explain what's needed. You'll split your time between remote support from our office and traveling to client locations in a company vehicle.

Day to day you'll be monitoring, maintaining, and reporting on client systems; handling support-desk tickets and ad-hoc troubleshooting; running small projects; and walking end users through fixes in plain language.

You'll thrive here if you can honestly say:

"Drop me at a site with two switches, two servers, five APs, and a firewall, and I can trace a problem end to end without someone on the phone walking me through it." You don't guess — you isolate. You work the layers: is it physical (cabling, port, SFP, PoE), is it the switch, is it the host, is it a service, or is it upstream at the firewall or ISP?
"When 'it's slow' or 'it's intermittent' lands on my desk, I reach for a capture, not a reboot." You're comfortable pulling a packet capture with Wireshark or tcpdump, setting up a SPAN/mirror port to see the traffic you need, and actually reading the result — spotting retransmissions, resets, duplicate ACKs, DNS that's timing out, a DHCP handshake that never completes, or an MTU/fragmentation problem. You can tell the difference between "the network is slow" and "one application is waiting on a slow response."
"I troubleshoot services at the port level, not just the 'is it plugged in' level." You can confirm whether a service is actually listening (netstat/ss, Resource Monitor), test reachability to a specific port (Test-NetConnection, telnet, nc/nmap), and reason about whether a failure is a closed port, a firewall/ACL drop, a service that's down, or a name-resolution problem. You know that "I can't reach the server" has a dozen root causes and you can name them.
"I can read what the infrastructure is telling me." You check switch interface counters for errors/drops, look at spanning-tree and VLAN config when something's unreachable, review firewall logs to see what's actually being blocked or NAT'd, and pull Windows Event Logs and service status to correlate a network symptom with a host-side cause.
"DNS, DHCP, and routing are where I look first, not where I get stuck." You can diagnose a bad scope, a stale or conflicting record, a wrong gateway or subnet mask, an APIPA address that tells you DHCP failed, or a routing/firewall path issue — and you know how to prove which one it is with nslookup/dig, ipconfig/ip, tracert/pathping, and ping used deliberately rather than hopefully.
"I can explain all of that to a non-technical client so they feel comfortable, not talked down to," and "I'd rather own a problem to root cause than hand it off." You're not done when the symptom disappears — you're done when you know why it happened and it won't surprise the client again.

If reading that list got you a little excited, we should talk. If those make you nervous, this probably isn't the right fit — and that's okay.

Required — 5+ years hands-on with:

Windows 10/11, Windows Server, and Microsoft 365 administration (with an emphasis on email)
Active Directory / Users & Computers — Windows Server 2012 R2 through 2022
Remote Desktop / Terminal Services administration
IP networking fundamentals: addressing/subnetting, switches, NICs, and wireless
Remote monitoring, maintenance, and reporting (RMM tools)
Desktop/laptop hardware: setup, upgrades, and replacements

Nice to have:

MSP / managed-services support experience
RMM platform experience (ConnectWise, NinjaOne, Datto, etc.)
A current Microsoft certification or CompTIA Network+/A+

The non-negotiables:

Clean MVR — this role requires frequent driving to client sites
Excellent verbal communication and customer-service etiquette
A full background check and drug screen are required to advance
