Job Goals:
- Manage, maintain, and support the district's electronic physical security systems, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and day-to-day administration.
- Provide technical support for the district's STEM Technology Center, ensuring technology resources are dependable and operational.
- Apply expertise in low-voltage electrical systems, commercial door hardware, physical security infrastructure, network systems, and instructional technology to support district operations.
- Ensure the effective operation, security, and reliability of physical security and STEM technology systems through proactive maintenance, problem resolution, and collaboration with district staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Network Administration, Building Construction, or a related field is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in low-voltage electrical installation, commercial security systems installation, or commercial locksmithing/carpentry.
- Valid Alabama driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Demonstrated ability to read building blueprints and schematic diagrams. Proven understanding of how interior/exterior doors, fire-rated walls, and commercial door hardware are constructed and modified.
- Foundational understanding of IP networking (IP addresses, subnets, PoE power budgets). Experience with standard enterprise VMS platforms and access control databases.
- CompTIA Network+, Security+, or vendor-specific access control/camera certifications (e.g., Axis, Hanwha, Milestone, Lenel, Avigilon) preferred but not required.
- Frequent travel between district sites is required.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely in various weather conditions.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Must be comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and motorized scissor lifts at heights up to 20 feet.
- Must be willing to work in tight structural spaces, including crawlspaces, attics, and ceiling plenums, under varying temperature conditions.
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
- Install, mount, wire, and position IP-based security cameras and physical access control hardware (including door strikes, maglocks, proximity badge readers, and motion sensors) across all 27 district campuses.
- Apply thorough working knowledge of commercial building construction, wall framing (wood, steel, masonry), and concrete/drop-ceiling routing to safely and cleanly pull low-voltage CAT6 cabling from intermediate distribution frames (IDFs) to end devices.
- Analyze and manipulate commercial door hardware, exit devices (panic bars), and door frames to ensure proper mechanical alignment and solid integration with electronic access controllers.
- Troubleshoot physical and electrical failures at the edge, including voltage drops, faulty relays, and damaged exterior conduits.
- Perform day-to-day administration of the district’s centralized Video Management System (VMS) and Access Control database software.
- Manage user access control privileges, generate and provision staff HID/proximity badges, and establish automated door lock/unlock schedules matching individual school calendars and special events.
- Audit system health alerts daily to proactively identify offline cameras, power supply failures, or forced-door alarms.
- Locate, archive, and securely export surveillance footage as requested by school administration or law enforcement in compliance with FERPA laws and district privacy policies.
- Provide two and tier-three technical support specifically dedicated to the equipment and infrastructure of the new district STEM Technology Center upon completion.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot specialized STEM hardware and software, including 3D printers, Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, robotics systems, interactive displays, and specialized computer-aided design (CAD) lab networks.
- Collaborate with the technology team to ensure the STEM center network remains secure, optimized, and fully functioning for student and teacher daily use.
- Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal and local laws.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
