Purpose: To provide professional nursing experience and to make sure that the physical and mental health needs of the clients are met. Responsible for coordinating medical care, supporting prenatal and postpartum health needs, monitoring acute conditions of babies, ensuring compliance with agency policies and healthcare regulations. This position promotes a safe, trauma-informed, and health-focused environment.

· Provide direct nursing care to maternity program participants and general residents.
Conduct health assessments upon admission and ongoing evaluations as needed.
· Insure annual physical assessment, immunizations and dental assessments are up to date.
· Assess and monitor a client’s medical and other health issues that are either directly related to the mental health or substance related disorder or to the treatment of the condition (e.g. diabetes, cardiac and/or blood pressure issues, substance withdrawal symptoms, weight gain and fluid retention, seizures, etc.)
· Drug screens, etc. required to monitor and assess mental health, substance disorders or directly related conditions and monitor side effects of psychotropic medications.
Monitor prenatal and postpartum health status in collaboration with community OB/GYN providers.
· Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as necessary.
· Insure all practices and services adhere to all current contracts, state and federal policies set forth by oversight bodies.
· Consult with and educate the client’s family/caregiver/therapist about medical, nutritional and other health issues related to the individual’s mental health or substance related issues.
· Educates the client and family/responsible caregiver(s) on medications and potential medication side effects.
· Consult with the client and family/caregiver(s) about the various aspects of informed consent (when prescribing occurs/APRN).
Attend monthly management meetings with.
· Provide health reports for case reviews and when a client is discharged or transferred to another facility.
· Consult with Medical Director and/or pediatrician regarding conditions outside scope of practice and refer clients to other health care providers, as indicated.
· Identify health related educational needs of clients and provide informal and/or structured instruction on health-related issues.
· Provide on campus and after-hours nursing consultation for the Macon campus as needed.
· Provide staff education as needed regarding best practice care of youth including disease specific training and general safety practices.
· Assess daily for new, pending and completed psychotropic consents and communicate with Lighthouse for Families, Residential Director, Human Services Professional, DFCS and Angus Lake regarding consents.
· Input new residents and medication lists into CareSuite upon admission.
· Coordinate on campus Dental services for Macon residents.
· Conduct urine drug screens to youth on the Macon Campus as needed.
· Review all medical invoices and Angus Lake pharmacy invoices to ensure accurate billing and dispute any unfiled encounters.
· Receive, inventory, ensure accuracy and distribute monthly deliveries of medication to Macon Campus.
· Coordinate with Macon Campus and Angus Lake to ensure needed medications are received.
· Review Medication Administration Record (MAR) monthly and as needed regarding medications not administered.
· Insure fidelity of medication management by receive unused an expired medication, properly disposing of both over the counter medication as well as controlled medications.
· Collaborate with program staff, and external healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
· Serve as a trainer for CPR, First Aid, AED, and medication management in accordance with regulatory requirements.
· Lead inspection, maintenance and compliance documentation of medical equipment, including AEDs, ensuring adherence to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory standards.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
· Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
· Must have current Georgia license to practice as a registered professional nurse.
· At least two years nursing experience, including experience in psychiatric or mental/behavioral health setting preferred.
· Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes client’s needs assessment and meeting quality standards for services.
· Demonstrated knowledge, competence, leadership ability, and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in use of computer.
· High level of energy required for working with people.
· Necessary stamina and temperament to work with clients ages 4-65 years of age who are experiencing crisis and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.
· Ability to interface and build relationships with clients and a variety of service providers and collaterals.
· Posses the skill of active listening – giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and ask appropriate questions.
· Ability to meet and handle the public with tact and poise.
