Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a New OB (NOB) Nurse / OB Care Coordinator in our fast-paced, high-volume OB/GYN practice. This position is responsible for conducting New OB visits, providing prenatal education, coordinating care for pregnant patients, assisting with nurse triage, managing Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) referrals, and administering specialized injections and IV therapies that require RN licensure.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, clinically skilled, and passionate about supporting women throughout their pregnancy journey. This individual must be able to balance direct patient care, care coordination, and clinical nursing responsibilities while maintaining exceptional patient satisfaction and quality standards.

New OB Patient Visits & Prenatal Education

Conduct comprehensive New OB (NOB) appointments for newly pregnant patients.
Obtain and document complete medical, surgical, obstetrical, gynecological, family, and social histories.
Review medications, allergies, and pregnancy risk factors.
Assess patients for high-risk pregnancy indicators and communicate concerns to providers.
Provide extensive prenatal education regarding:
Pregnancy expectations and milestones
Nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyle recommendations
Prenatal vitamins and medication safety
Genetic screening and testing options
Prenatal laboratory testing
Common pregnancy symptoms and warning signs
Labor and delivery expectations
Breastfeeding and postpartum care
Ensure patients understand their treatment plans and have access to appropriate educational resources.

OB Care Coordination

Coordinate prenatal care according to established clinical guidelines.
Schedule and coordinate necessary prenatal appointments, testing, and follow-up visits.
Manage and facilitate referrals to Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists.
Coordinate referrals for genetic counseling, specialty consultations, and additional services as needed.
Track referral completion and ensure timely communication between specialists and providers.
Follow up on provider recommendations and patient care plans.

Nurse Triage Support

Assist with telephone and electronic patient triage as needed.
Assess patient symptoms and concerns using established nursing protocols.
Provide appropriate nursing advice and patient education within scope of practice.
Escalate urgent or emergent concerns to providers promptly.
Document all patient interactions accurately within the electronic medical record.

Clinical Nursing Procedures

Administer injections, medications, and treatments requiring RN licensure.
Initiate and monitor IV therapy as ordered by providers.
Administer IV hydration, iron infusions, and other infusion therapies according to practice protocols.
Monitor patients during and after administration of injections and infusions.
Recognize and respond appropriately to adverse reactions or complications.
Maintain competency in all clinical nursing procedures and emergency protocols.

Laboratory & Diagnostic Coordination

Review and process prenatal laboratory orders.
Coordinate diagnostic testing and ultrasound appointments.
Review incoming results and route appropriately to providers.
Communicate normal results and provider recommendations according to established protocols.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and practice policies.
Follow all clinical protocols and quality assurance standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and workflow enhancements.

Team Collaboration

Work collaboratively with physicians, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical assistants, sonographers, and administrative staff.
Assist in maintaining efficient patient flow and clinic operations.
Participate in staff meetings, continuing education, and training opportunities.
Serve as a clinical resource for patients and team members.
