Full Job Description

Payroll & HR Coordinator

Perth Amboy, NJ 08861 | Contract-to-Hire | Onsite Monday through Friday
Pay: $24–$28/hr, based on experience

The MOHR Talent Group is partnering with a growing food service and custom meat processing operation in South Amboy, NJ to hire a Payroll & HR Coordinator. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting approximately 125 employees in a union and non-union environment.

This role is ideal for a junior to mid-level HR and payroll professional who is looking to continue growing their career. The Payroll & HR Coordinator will support weekly payroll, employee onboarding, benefits administration, employee records, recruiting coordination, and general HR operations. This person should be organized, professional, comfortable working with employees, and able to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

Assist with weekly payroll processing for union and non-union employees
Support payroll data entry, timecard review, payroll changes, deductions, overtime, and basic payroll adjustments
Help research and resolve employee payroll questions or discrepancies
Maintain employee records, including new hires, employee changes, and terminations
Support onboarding and coordinate with IT for new hire system access
Assist with recruiting coordination, including scheduling interviews and supporting pre-employment verification
Help track union employee progression increases and related employee data
Support benefits administration, including new hire enrollments, qualifying life event changes, payroll deductions, and open enrollment
Assist with COBRA notices, workers’ compensation documentation, and employee benefit questions as needed
Help reconcile monthly invoices for payroll, benefits, voluntary plans, and union-related items
Generate basic reports, including headcount, census data, month-end reports, and ad hoc HR/payroll reports
Assist with PTO tracking and support future process improvements as the company moves toward system implementation
Provide general administrative support to the HR team and business operations

Qualifications

1 to 3 years of payroll, HR, or HR coordination experience preferred
ADP payroll experience preferred; ADP Workforce Now is a plus
Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred
Experience in a union environment is a plus, but not required
Associate degree preferred, but not required
Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to multitask and follow through in a fast-paced environment
Professional communication skills and comfort interacting with employees and leadership
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
