Full Job Description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available to study the role of age-associated factors in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in the Stroke Research Laboratory at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. This is an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellow position. The laboratory focuses on how age-associated signaling drives neuroinflammation in aged and post-stroke brains, as well as in peripheral organs, thereby disrupting stroke recovery. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting animal surgeries using an ICH model, utilizing FACS and various in vivo techniques for data analysis, and conducting research projects aimed at understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cerebrovascular disease progression and neuroinflammation following ICH.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform mouse survival surgeries (ICH models) and in vivo injections, including behavioral tests, post-operative care, and tissue dissections.
Collect and process biological samples, including blood, tissue, and organs
Perform biochemical experiments and FACS analysis on collected biological samples
Collaborate with other team members to design and perform experiments and interpret results
Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and data
Communicate research findings through presentations, publications, and scientific meetings
Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and other research activities within the Stroke Research Laboratory

Preferences

PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Neuroscience, Immunology, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related discipline) preferred.
Expertise in animal surgery techniques, including aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation, is preferred.

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
2. Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.

4. Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
