UCSF nurse practitioners (NPs) are advanced practice providers (APPs) who possess the education, national board certification, California licensure, knowledge, clinical skills, and experience necessary to provide evidence-based patient care in their area of clinical practice. They provide routine, acute, critical, and specialty care as defined by their granted privileges/standardized procedures. These may include performing non-invasive or invasive procedures and operative first assist.
The NPII will work as part of a Team at the Parnassus location within the UCSF Department of Radiation Oncology in a multidisciplinary environment working with Radiation Oncologists, Residents, Registered Nurses, Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists, Dieticians, and Social Workers in collaboration with referring medical oncologists and surgeons. The NPII reports to and is managed by an APP Manager while working under the supervision of Faculty/Attending Providers. The patient populations may vary but will focus primarily on Solid Tumor cancers. The incumbent will provide care to patients including taking histories; conducting physical exams; document findings and actions as indicated, complex wound care within the department and assist with planning of the course of patients’ treatments for adult populations. The NPII will perform site-specific patient teaching; prepare patients for simulation; may assist with contouring structures for treatment planning; medicate patients as needed; order medications for symptom relief; assist in managing patients in follow-up; and address quality of life issues not limited to skin/wound care, speech/swallowing, adequate nutritional intake; and psycho-social issues. In addition, the NPII will answer patient phone calls, emails, My Chart messages, questions and perform other duties as required such as attending tumor boards, participate in department, and medical center committees as needed. Other duties may include developing patient education materials; staff development; training; teaching; outreach; assisting with research; analyzing or collecting data; and assisting other service teams in providing care to patients in the department as needed.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements: Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing-approved or verified school of nursing with a master’s degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). - Two (2) years of NP experience in the adult population Preferred Requirements: 1. Inpatient APP experience 2. Recent Radiation Oncology experience 3. Recent Oncology experience 4. Recent ambulatory experience License/Certifications: 1. California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction 2. California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction 3. California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges 4. NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role Adult Hybrid Inpatient and Outpatient (ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC). 5. California Driver License (if required for position) 6. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address 7. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 8. Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS 9. Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): XXX (enter none, if no additional certifications are required) Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): 1 . Excellent verbal and written communication skills 2. Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients 3. Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role 4. Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by health care providers and team members 5. Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider 6. Submit health plan (Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial for all APPs; also, CCS for pediatric providers) enrollment by first clinical day 7. At all times, must adhere to the UCSF Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Code of Conduct, PRIDE values, and applicable medical center/campus/departmental policies and procedures 8. At all times, must adhere to all UCSF policies regarding HIPPA, privacy, communication, documentation, encounter closure, and billing 9. Mandatory attendance at the Office of Advanced Practice Providers Orientation Sessions 10. Mandatory attendance at the APP Onboarding Committee APP Onboarding Series 11. This position requires flexibility for the APP to work at all UCSF Health facilities/locations 12.
