Position Summary
Breaks down information obtained from specifications, sketches, customer layout drawings and instructions furnished by others and convert the information into detailed drawings with section views and dimensions using CAD applications. Responsible for determining whether drawings can be executed and within expected tolerances. Supervision is readily available and work is sometimes reviewed by more experienced staff. May prepare bills of materials and specifications. Working from engineered drawings and specifications and using knowledge of machine operations, develops code to control machine operation. Prepares process plans, including positioning of carriage and/or tool, rate of feed, speed of rotation, tool changes, type of tool, sequence of operations and other variables. May work directly with machines and machine operators to verify the accuracy and safety of programs. Supervision is limited. Works independently on projects of moderate complexity. Typically requires completion of a formal drafting program and 2-4 years of experience.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities
- Create CAD drawings from prints, sketches, templates and other customer supplied data files
- Generate CNC machine programs and nests through SigmaNest or other programs
- Create ship flat pattern drawings and bend allowance drawings for production team use
- Communicate with customer and peers regarding programming, engineering and drawing issues raised before or during production
- Working with shop production personnel for programming issues and machine specific function characteristics within base of knowledge
- Process new revision or engineering change requests by following QMSP-1009 New Revision or Engineering Change Request procedure.
- Help develop and implement a part file structure to allow everyone access to information they need, when they need it (i.e. drawings, revision change history, customer approvals, etc.).
- Control of Documents per QMSP-1001.
- Help maintain current revision levels of all stocked customer part numbers in JobBoss
- Assist in filing system of all current nest programs
- Continually produce high quality products which meet or exceed customer drawing specifications and engineering standards while minimizing scrap and rework costs
- Continually monitor and provide input on operational methods, processes and procedures to meet departmental goals relating to efficiencies, equipment utilization and time usage in order to maintain or improve cost competitiveness
- Keeping on task and focused on effective production processes and methods
- Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for job assignments
- Maintain documentation in an orderly manner
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that interfaces well with co-workers and management team members
- Follow and continually monitor established safety policies, procedures and safe work practices to ensure a clean and safe work environment is promoted and maintained
- Provide quality in all goods and services delivered to internal and external customers through an approach of thorough planning, responsible implementation and continuous improvement
Experience and Educational Requirements
- Minimum two years experience in the metal fabrication industry or similar environment
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing processes, i.e. 5S, elimination of waste and mistake proofing, etc.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 processes and procedures
- Knowledge of WISHA and OSHA requirements and regulations
- Basic math skills i.e. algebra, geometry and trigonometry required

- Ability to train and assist with troubleshooting equipment issues and process variations

- Expected to work overtime and flexible hours as needed to meet production and departmental goals
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

The salary range is $26 to $39 an hour.
