Scientist, Protein Sciences

Job description

The Spectrix Scientist, Protein Sciences:

The BPO Scientist, Protein Sciences:

· Execute protein purification strategies to generate high quality proteins and antibody fragments for structure determination

Preparation of membrane fractions and purification of membrane proteins

· Perform routine QC such as MS, DLS or analytical SEC to assess protein quality

· Conduct protein–protein and protein–ligand interaction analyses using techniques such as analytical SEC, SPR, Western blot, SEC-MALS, Refeyn, and related biophysical methods

· Coordinate shipping, receiving, and cataloging of proteins from CROs, and maintain accurate sample metadata and datasheets in internal databases

· Operate with a high degree of independence in a hands-on, laboratory-focused environment

· Contribute to cutting-edge science in a structure-based drug discovery setting

· Maintain accurate experimental records and analyze, interpret, and communicate results effectively to multidisciplinary teams

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent major with 2 or more years industry or relevant laboratory research experience or a Master’s degree with >1 year of industry or relevant laboratory research work experience or a Ph.D. is required.

· Strong expertise in protein purification techniques and instrumentation (ex. Westerns, SDS-PAGE, affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion chromatography via AKTA systems) is required

· Expertise in protein characterization using techniques such as analytical gel filtration, mass spectrometry, NanoDSF, and dynamic light scattering is preferred

· Experience in protein–protein or protein–ligand interaction analysis (e.g., SPR, SEC-MALS) is preferred

Practical experience in preparation of membrane fractions and purification of membrane proteins is a plus

· Skills in recombinant expression of proteins in various heterologous systems (E. coli, insect, mammalian, and/or cell-free systems) is desirable.
