Description:

Title: Senior Rec-Res Counselor (SRC)

Reports to: Rec-Res Dir as assigned

Status: Non-Exempt. Dining with students and weekend rotations required

Rotating Shifts: Evenings run from 2:45p to 11:15p
Non-School Days begin at Discretion of Dir: 6:45a or 8:45a
Nights begin at 10:45p for either 8 or 10 hours

JOB SUMMARY: The SRC will implement, manage and participate in approved recreation and residential activities simultaneously ensuring student growth in social interaction skills and improved behaviors. S/he ensures the safety of activities for students and RCs. Each may be requested from time to time to help Directors plan appropriate learning activities. SRCs will consistently use OTMSS with their RCs, model appropriate interactions with students and apply approved interventions and consequences. S/he will evaluate the performance of assigned RCs in a timely manner; and communicate pertinent, concise and accurate information to the CSL who will share in shift reports to incoming staff or sooner if deemed urgent.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS

1. Develops growth experiences for staff and students in accord with IAGER & approved practices

2. Works with assigned RCPs to provide meaningful shadowing experiences as part of Training

3. Applies continuous OTMSS to then Monitor, Supervise and Support all RCs assigned to them

4. Conducts performance reviews of RCs, detailing SWOTS; identifies follow-up training needs

5. Participates robustly in as leader of activities in designated locations on- and off- campus

6. Participates in shift-change meetings with CSL to ensure the proper flow of information from

his/her RCs to incoming SRCs and CSL regarding

a) how each student in his/her group is doing

b) who is on special precautions, and why (eg illness, AWOL risk, etc)

c) performance in on- and off- campus activities and interactions with visitors

d) completed and anticipated student appointments (medical, dental, etc visits)

e) completes shift-report notes and documentation as required or requested

7. Ensures that learning experiences happen for students assigned to their Activity Groups

8. Takes proactive steps to identify and address concerns. Knows when to call the CSL for help

> The CSL will engage on-call therapists and administrators as appropriate

9. Requires & teaches RCs how to participate robustly in activities, and to ultimately lead them

10. Uses and teaches RCs how to use approved interventions and consequences with students

12. Works hands-on with students and RCs to ensure all activity and living areas are presentable

13. When serving as CSL, SRC applies stepped-up duties: MBWA to on-campus student locations

14. When serving as CSL ensures 1:3 ratios are being met in any on- and off- campus activities;

assists SRCs and all RCs as requested; provides bathroom breaks for staff as needed.

15. Models and teaches the guidelines provided in both Student-Parent and Employee Handbooks

10. Pursues continuous professional growth in order to enhance student, staff and personal performance

11. Demonstrates an understanding of the behavioral improvement plans by consistently using them

12. Uses IEP, ISP and BIP objectives when creating learning experiences for use with activity groups

13. Completes necessary documentation within times specified in policies and procedures

14. Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis studies if requested

15. Greets all visitors, parents and reviewers with a smile, appropriate comments and utmost respect

16. Models ethical behavior when resolving misunderstandings, disagreements and conflicts

17. Contributes to long-term planning; supports CQI initiatives and collection of Outcome Data

18. Manages all allocated resources efficiently and effectively, and requires others to do the same

19. Responds positively to any Director’s request to perform other duties

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

a. Bachelor’s degree preferred; but an experienced individual can qualify

b. Employee management experience is preferred

c. Strong communication skills: Listening, Speaking, Writing & De-escalation

d. A year or more of successful work as a RC2 at LRA is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

a. Able to interact skillfully with all Department Directors sharing pertinent information

b. Leads, participates in & teaches RCs how to effectively use de-escalation techniques

c. Able to determine when restraints are needed and lead RCs safely through doing so

d. Knows when to contact the CSL for assistance and does so promptly
