Full Job Description

Structural EngineerJob Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Engineer to join our growing team. This position is focused on the design, analysis, and engineering of structural steel and miscellaneous metals for commercial, institutional, and public works projects throughout the Northeast.

The ideal candidate will have experience performing structural connection design, preparing engineering calculations, and reviewing fabrication drawings. This role will also be responsible for signing and sealing structural and miscellaneous metal drawings when required, while working closely with our project management, detailing, fabrication, and erection teams to deliver accurate, code-compliant solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys practical, construction-focused engineering and wants to see their designs move from concept through fabrication and installation.

Responsibilities

Design structural steel connections in accordance with AISC Specification, ASCE 7, and applicable building codes.
Perform engineering calculations for structural steel framing, connections, miscellaneous metals, stairs, railings, ladders, dunnage, equipment supports, and other custom steel assemblies.
Review and approve shop drawings prepared by the detailing department.
Sign and seal structural and miscellaneous metal drawings and calculations where required.
Coordinate with architects, structural engineers of record, general contractors, and project managers to resolve engineering and construction issues.
Review contract drawings, specifications, RFIs, and project requirements to ensure engineering compliance.
Develop practical and economical engineering solutions that are efficient to fabricate and erect.
Assist with field issues by providing engineering recommendations and design revisions as necessary.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, and industry standards.
Support fabrication and erection teams by providing timely engineering responses throughout the duration of each project.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain licensure in applicable states within a reasonable timeframe.
Experience designing structural steel connections and miscellaneous metal systems.
Strong understanding of AISC Steel Construction Manual, AISC 360, AISC 341, ASCE 7, IBC, AWS D1.1, and applicable structural design standards.
Experience preparing engineering calculations for steel structures and miscellaneous metals.
Ability to review and approve fabrication and erection drawings.
Proficiency with structural engineering software such as RAM Connection, IDEA StatiCa, RISA, SDS/2, Tekla Structural Designer, STAAD, or similar analysis programs.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to interpret structural steel shop drawings.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Construction, fabrication, or steel detailing experience is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with delegated connection design.
Experience engineering miscellaneous metals including stairs, railings, ladders, platforms, and equipment supports.
Familiarity with fabrication and erection processes.
Multi-state PE licensure is a plus.
Experience working on public, educational, commercial, or municipal construction projects.
