Orthopedic Surgery Scheduler

Utah Orthopedic Sports & Injury Center, Salt Lake City, UT

Overview: Utah Orthopedic Spine & Injury Center has an immediate opening for a full-time position for Surgery Scheduler. Qualified applicants must have at least one year of professional experience as a surgery scheduler, or have relevant medical insurance experience with authorizations, benefits and dealing with managed care. The position is in our Salt Lake City office in Cottonwood Heights.

Essential Functions & Duties:

· Schedule and coordinate patient surgeries/procedures in multiple facilities; including contacting and updating facilities with patient and procedure information.

· Verify and document insurance eligibility and performing pre-certification/authorization with insurance companies and/or other healthcare payors.

· Obtain all necessary special equipment request by physician for certain procedures.

· Collaborate with hospital/surgery center staff, medical product and equipment representatives and providers to ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are requested and at the facility for scheduled surgeries.

· Prepare patient surgical packets for physicians to include patient demographic information and medical and imaging records for day of surgery.

· Communicate and educate patients on pre- and post-surgical needs, including pre-operative testing and medical prescription instructions.

· Prepare and maintain patient surgical consents and patient records, to include imaging records

· Maintain and update practice surgical patient spreadsheets in Excel.

· Proficiently utilize our Electronic Health Record (EHR), entering and maintaining accurate information.

· Utilize Intermountain Health Care’s EHR and enter patient data in advance of surgeries.

· Compute and collect co-payments from patients.

· Follow provider instructions, demonstrate accurate, timely and efficient follow through with pharmacy refills, scheduling out of clinic procedures, obtaining, reporting and tracking of lab results, leaving phone messages and distributing faxes as needed.

· Working directly with Physicians, Physicians Assistant and Clinical staff

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:

· Minimum one year experience working as a surgery scheduler in a physician office, surgery center or hospital or professional experience in a related field, such as working with medical insurances

· Commitment to customer service with compassion and caring

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills

· Ability to multi-task

· Detail oriented

· Experience with Electronic Medical Records, preferably eClinicalworks

· Excellent Computer Skills, Microsoft Office

· Familiarity with orthopedic, hand, back, foot and surgery cases preferred.

· Orthopedic experience a big plus

· Bilingual Spanish/English a plus

· Must have reliable transportation
