Full Job Description

Job description

Tristate Wi-Fi by Wi-Fiber is excited to announce an opening for our Installation and Repair / Tower Technician (IR&T) position.

IR&T Technicians are responsible for installing wireless internet equipment on the outside of customers homes and Wi-Fi distribution equipment (such as routers) inside of customers homes and installing and maintaining wireless and fiberoptic internet equipment on tower sites. This includes driving a company vehicle, setting up / moving and climbing ladders, and working from rooftops, in building crawl spaces, and working at tower sites on wood and steel poles, steel towers and driving and operating aerial bucket, lift, and digger / boom equipment. Communication with schedulers is occasionally necessary to coordinate timely arrival at jobs and receive notification if appointments are changed or rescheduled.

A long-term commitment is required as the training process takes 3-6 months.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Travel to customer locations to install, repair, and troubleshoot wireless related equipment
Mounting and aligning antenna systems, running cable, and working with Engineers to program routers, switches, uninterruptable power supplies, and/or computers for remote management
Maintain detailed activity logs of completed work, including but not limited to: photographs of equipment, location of antenna equipment, radio frequencies, and any customer concerns or equipment problems
Proactively communicate with all appropriate departments of any issues which may affect efficient operations, including outages, service disruptions, and repeated customer complaints
Troubleshoot physical layer problems with radio frequency (RF) links; resolve IP network issue problems
Operate aerial bucket, lift and digger / boom equipment
Climb wood and steel structures (poles & towers)
Perform on-call work after hours and during weekends when required, usually in a rotation cycle with other technicians
Follow OSHA and related company policies at all times

Required Skills and Experience

Clean driving record
Possess or have the ability to obtain a commercial driver license (CDL) within 6 months of employment
Lift 50+ lbs on a regular basis
Consistently work 8+ hours per day in weather ranging from -10 to 120 degrees
Comfortable with heights. Rooftop and tower access is required
Effectively communicate with all levels of employees/departments, management and customers
Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team, including efficiently working without supervision
Basic troubleshooting skills and critical thinking
Ability to come up with creative solutions to solve problems
Strong verbal, written, listening, and telephone skills
Comfortably and safely use hand and power tools
Basic knowledge of computing equipment, networking, and routers
Must be able to learn, access, and operate various mobile applications

Preferred Skills and Experience

Intermediate to advance knowledge of computing equipment, networking, and routers
Structured cabling installation
1+ year of experience working for a WISP, telco, cable, or satellite company
Basic understanding of radio frequencies (RF)

Daily work is in an office, warehouse environment, and vehicle utilizing computers, related wireless equipment, and phones. It involves sitting, walking, standing, climbing, bending, and possibly stooping for extended periods, as well as carrying and lifting objects of less than 80 pounds. Driving and job-related travel may be required.
