Genesee Community Charter School (GCCS)

Genesee Community Charter School (GCCS) is hiring a School Director for the RMSC campus. You will be the building leader and instructional lead for a K through 6 EL Education school, nationally recognized for its implementation of the EL Education model and its arts integration. Students learn through interdisciplinary expeditions and frequent fieldwork that make active use of Rochester history and the cultural and natural resources of our community.

Our local history-based and globally connected program immerses our diverse population of students in investigation and discovery, extensively using the cultural and natural resources of our community. We nurture our students’ natural abilities to be authentic communicators, reflective questioners, critical thinkers and skilled problem solvers, enabling them to reach exemplary standards.

POSITION TITLE: School Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

STATUS: Full Time, 12 months

SALARY RANGE: $68,000-$85,000 qualifications based on education, certifications, leadership, administrative experience, and tenure at GCCS.

QUALIFICATIONS:

● New York State Building Leader Certification

● Minimum of 10 years of teaching and administrative experience with a preference in elementary education

● Experience with EL Education or project-based learning is highly desirable ● NYS Fingerprint Clearance

POSITION SUMMARY:

The School Director is the instructional leader for the RMSC campus and, working in close partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, the face of the school to families and the larger community. You build the academic program and school culture on the EL Education model, and you ensure that coaching, feedback, and professional development advance the expectations and values of GCCS.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy for Learning and Growth

Set and champion a clear vision for teaching and learning that connects curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional development, equity, culture, and EL Design Principles to student outcomes, and communicate that vision consistently to all community members.
Build a rigorous academic program and a positive school culture that closes achievement gaps.
Use EL Education Implementation Reviews, standardized and benchmark data, student work, and family and staff surveys to guide decisions.
Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of staff aligned to GCCS academic expectations and culture.
Recruit and enroll new students and families with the Leadership Team. Instructional Leadership
Take primary responsibility for raising student achievement, embedding EL practices, and meeting the needs of all learners.
Coordinate on-site and off-site professional development with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction aligned to school and organizational goals and set clear expectations for staff to plan for and attend it.
Coach teachers through frequent feedback, direct supervision, and clear guidance that names effective instruction and surfaces strengths and growth areas across classrooms.
Observe, evaluate, and give feedback using GCCS evaluation tools and performance expectations.
Build shared leadership capacity so teachers support one another’s growth. Provide the resources teachers need to deepen content knowledge and implement the EL Design Principles.
Attend District Instructional Leadership Team meetings to coordinate improvement across campuses.

School Culture

Set high expectations and model mutual respect, integrity, accountability, and commitment. Build direct relationships with families and students through rituals and routines that build trust and dialogue and manage school culture in line with the GCCS Code of Conduct. Cultivate shared ownership of successes, challenges, and change, and celebrate team and individual contributions.
Engage people from diverse backgrounds through a lens of cultural proficiency and equity. Structure active teacher collaboration with clear roles, goals, and protocols, and address conflict productively and proactively.
Coordinate and attend school-family events such as Exhibition Nights, Community Circles, and Family Association events with the Family Association.

Operational Management

Oversee building health and safety with the Building Safety Team and outside contractors, including revising the building safety plan at least annually, holding regular facility team meetings, and advocating for facility and procedural improvements.
Inform and adhere to budget decisions throughout the year.
Manage building-specific personnel needs such as medical leave and PTO. Help create building policies and serve as chief enforcer of all policies in the building. Coordinate with the Executive Director on matters involving school counsel.

Logistical Oversight and Communication

Oversee creation of the master schedule, consulting stakeholders and adjusting as needed.
Communicate effectively with all campus stakeholders.
Supervise procedures for arrival, dismissal, building transitions, emergency drills, and handoffs to caregivers.
Prioritize and respond quickly to competing demands, especially during a crisis. Attend board meetings and present to the board as needed.
