We are looking for a Small Animal Student Aide to work alongside our world leading emergency and critical care faculty clinicians and technicians, helping them teach the next generation of veterinarians while also serving the animals and pet owners of our community.
This position ends 10 months from date of hire with the possibility of extension.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD: Post for one month. Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
This position is subject to the automatic 1000-hour conversion to career.
Job Summary
Under supervision of the Supervisor of Small Animal Student Aide, Central Aide and Central Receiving, provide veterinary technical support to disabled veterinary students and patient transportation for receiving services in the small animal. Requires a flexible schedule to meet the requirements of the student’s clinical rotations. Under supervision of the Service supervisor, assist Veterinary Students, Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and Veterinarians with patient handling and prescribed medical treatments, including but not limited to patient transportation and restraint. Clean, disinfect, sanitize and stock assigned areas according to established protocols. Monitor and record patient vital functions, maintain inventory and equipment, and perform hospitalization and discharge procedures according to hospital protocols.

Department Overview
The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work Environment
