Full Job Description

One of our clients in the government domain is seeking a Web Accessibility Consultant to support the Tennessee Department of Human Resources in enhancing and maintaining accessible, user-centered HR websites. This role ensures compliance with ADA Level AA and WCAG 2.1 standards across both internal and external platforms while improving usability, content quality, and engagement. This position plays a key role in advancing the State’s digital accessibility initiatives by identifying and remediating barriers, implementing inclusive design practices, and establishing sustainable governance processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Website Accessibility Compliance

Conduct accessibility audits and implement remediation strategies Ensure compliance with ADA Level AA and WCAG 2.1 standards across HR platforms Utilize tools such as WAVE, Axe, or Siteimprove for testing and validation 2. Content Optimization & Accessibility

Review, edit, and restructure web content for clarity, usability, and inclusiveness Apply plain language principles and accessibility best practices 3. Website Redesign & Modernization

Collaborate with stakeholders to improve site structure, navigation, and UX Support modernization initiatives aligned with user-centered design principles 4. Accessibility Training & Enablement

Develop and deliver training for HR teams and content contributors Guide accessibility compliance and inclusive content creation 5. Governance & Process Development

Establish and document accessibility standards and review workflows Implement sustainable content governance practices 6. User Experience (UX) Enhancement

Analyze user behavior and feedback to improve usability and engagement Recommend and implement UX improvements 7. Graphic Design Support

Create and refine accessible visual elements and templates Ensure compliance with branding and accessibility standards Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in web design, Digital Media, Communications, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of experience in web management, accessibility, UX, or content strategy Required Skills & Expertise

Strong experience with ADA/WCAG 2.0 or 2.1 Level AA compliance Hands-on experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Familiarity with accessibility tools (WAVE, Axe, Siteimprove, etc.) Solid understanding of UX principles and inclusive design Strong content editing and communication skills Preferred Qualifications:

Accessibility certifications (CPACC, WAS, or similar) Experience in government or large enterprise environments Experience managing both intranet and public-facing websites Core Competencies
