Job Title:

Wind Turbine Technician

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for daily operations and maintenance of wind turbines. This will require an extensive amount of travel throughout the US. This person must have a “safety first” attitude with an understanding of doing the job right the first time. WINDA ID required for consideration

Essential Job Functions:

Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
Working in and around wind turbines
Climb multiple wind towers on a daily basis
Ability to professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis
Demonstrate safety as a top priority
Install, inspect, maintain, operate and repair wind turbines
Diagnose and fix any problem that could cause the turbine to be shut down unexpectedly or fail to operate properly
Climb towers to inspect, troubleshoot, or repair turbine equipment
Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines
Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions
Service underground transmission systems, wind field substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems
Replace worn or malfunctioning components
Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent
Must possess an active Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or have the ability to obtain a TWIC Card
Must possess an active GWO BST certification or have the ability to obtain.
Technical 2 or 4-year degree or certificate wind energy or related preferred
Minimum one (1) years’ experience working in and around wind turbines, specifically for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, or wind energy degree or certificate
Experience using basic power and hydraulic tools
Valid Driver’s License. (CDL Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to the SkyMast Energy’s Zero Injury principles
Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Ability to use hydraulic tension and torque tooling
Knowledge of entering and exiting the rotor. This includes locking out the rotor
Knowledge of using the internal chain hoist
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution
Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation
Ability to read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics
Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 125 meters in height
Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
Able to maintain certifications required to perform the work, including but not limited to:

First Aid / CPR, Tower Climb and Rescue, LOTO, Arc Flash, etc.

Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices / protocols including LOTO
Comfort working remotely in a turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction

Working Environment:

Regularly exposed to extreme outside weather conditions and demanding physical situations
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme heat
Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
Noise level in the work environment is usually loud

Physical Demands:

Projects range from 2 weeks-6 months and all of our techs need to be available fit for duty 5-6 days a week 10-12 hours a day, are you good with that schedule?

This is a 100% travel position, with sites nationwide, are you good with being on the road for months at a time?
We do NOT do a rotation schedule, no 6 week on 1 week off, we expect technicians to remain on their project, but do offer time off with advance notice, is this ok?
