About Dermatology, P.C.:

Dermatology, P.C. specializes in general dermatology, surgical dermatology, dermatopathology and cosmetic services. We study, diagnose, and treat the disorders of the skin, hair, and nails.

Dermatology, P.C. is seeking a Patient Service Specialist to join our team! Dermatology, P.C. is a fast-paced private practice, seeking an energetic team player who enjoys a challenge. Travel to West Des Moines, Ankeny and/or Indianola is an expectation for this position.

JOB FUNCTION: Performs duties associated with direct, non-clinical patient services. Rotates through non-clinical service areas, including check-in, check-out, communication center and file management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Greet patients and/or visitors in a prompt, courteous and professional manner.
Obtain, verify and update necessary patient information, provide any necessary forms, obtain necessary signatures and make copies of appropriate documents for patient chart.
Takes initiative to know patient insurance cards for proper entry and pre-authorizations.
Monitors and maintains an awareness of patients in the waiting room. Checks with nursing staff when delays seem excessive and notifies patients of probable waiting time remaining.
Monitors and maintains the patient waiting room, assuring a neat, clean and professional appearance at all times.
Collect patient co-payments and/or other payments and issue receipt if necessary.
Post and balance daily payments.
Schedule, reschedule, cancel patient appointments.
Accurately adheres dictation to progress note and copies and mails referral letters.
Answer multi-line telephone system in a courteous and professional manner, projecting a positive public image of the clinic.
Take concise messages and providing accurate/detailed information.
Arrange and file charts alphabetically.
Pull charts for upcoming appointments and phone messages.
Adhere to the practice’s HIPAA policies and procedures regarding patient privacy and the security of patient Protected Health Information.
Attend scheduled staff meetings and is responsible for information discussed.
Attend and complete all mandatory training requirements.
Maintains awareness of workload of co-workers and offers assistance as appropriate.
Keeps own work area clean, neat and professional in appearance. Collaborates with co-workers in keeping break room and patient access areas clean.
Primary duties/location may fluctuate or change on a daily basis.
Performs other tasks as assigned.

Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of the supervisor, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

It is possible that each listed duty may not be assigned to every PSS incumbent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous customer service experience. Demonstrated proficiency in use of 10-key calculator and computer, and 50 wpm typing preferred. Previous experience working in a medical office and a working knowledge of different types of insurance plans and billing software preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Computer literate.

Possess good telephone skills and etiquette.

Able to function effectively in an open environment with multiple distractions.

Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

Possess a strong commitment to quality customer service.

Must be able to function effectively within a team.

Ability to work under stress, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and keep track of details.

Ability to file and retrieve from alpha filing systems.

Must be flexible and adaptable.

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions.
