Job Summary
The Director of Environmental Compliance is in charge of establishing, implementing, and overseeing corporate environmental programs, permitting, remedial efforts, and ensuring compliance with government regulatory authorities. This job will drive the strategy and oversee the implementation of environmental practices at all locations, and collaborate with site EHS staff to support plant operations. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Environmental, Health, and Safety and oversee Environmental & Compliance professionals.
Essential Duties
Define and Execute Strategy: Establish a visionary "future-state" for environmental excellence and develop a clear, multi-phased strategy for its execution.
Program Oversight and Governance: Lead all corporate environmental initiatives, managing third-party vendors and external environmental counsel to achieve critical company objectives.
Technical Leadership: Provide expert technical guidance and leadership to implement core compliance and sustainability programs (e.g., remediation, wastewater, regulated waste, SPCC, air emissions, sustainability strategies).
Regulatory Interpretation: Maintain deep expertise in Federal and state environmental regulations, consistently evaluating and interpreting their application to all operational activities.
Cross-Functional System Implementation: Collaborate with all functional partners to ensure robust environmental compliance systems are established to meet stringent regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend state-of-the-art air pollution control technologies for continuous improvement.
Permitting and Reporting Expertise: Prepare complex permit applications, calculate air emissions, and perform all necessary calculations for regulatory reporting, compliance, chemical inventories, and water discharges.
Operational Integration: Act as the primary environmental resource for compliance, engineering, and operations staff, partnering with project teams and plant personnel to ensure continuous environmental compliance at new and existing facilities.
Proactive Trend Analysis: Continuously monitor emerging environmental regulations and trends, identifying potential impacts and developing proactive short- and long-term strategies for organizational readiness.
Talent Development: Coach, mentor, and develop EHS staff and leadership in environmental programs, requirements, and risk management.
Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis: Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in incident investigations to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
M&A Due Diligence: Partner with Senior Leadership to conduct environmental due diligence on potential acquisitions.
Expert Liaison: Act as the primary liaison with internal and external counsel and SMEs regarding complex environmental projects, matters, and regulatory affairs.

Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering degree is required
15+ years environmental management experience, 10+ years management of people and engineering.
Problem-solving using standard engineering / scientific methods.
Ability to effectively adapt to changing needs and priorities while maintaining a positive attitude with a focus on client success.
Exceptional interpersonal skills that are leveraged to build relationships and trust with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication, listening and presentation skills including the ability to effectively present and discuss technical information and respond to questions from employees, government agency representatives, and customers.
Ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage multiple projects.
Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite Office.
Qualifications Preferred
Post graduate degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred
Professional Engineer certification
Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.
Base Salary Range: $153,000-$195,500
