Alamo is a census-designated place in Contra Costa County, California, in the United States. It is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. As of the 2000 census, the population was 15,626. The Tri-Valley's unincorporated community of Alamo has nothing to do with the ill-fated 19th century Texas fortress. Instead, it was named by the Spanish in 1850 for the poplar trees that lined San Ramon Creek. Alamo's 94507 zip code was ranked by Forbes Magazine in 2006 as the 37th most expensive zip code in America. 1
