Carencro is a small city in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is a bedroom community to the nearby city of Lafayette. As of the 2000 census, Carencro population was 6,120. The name comes from the Louisiana Creole word for buzzard: the spot was one where large flocks of buzzards roosted in the bald cypress trees.
