Columbia was the home of Louisiana Governor John McKeithen , the first governor to serve two consecutive four-year terms. His son, W. Fox McKeithen, was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1984-1988 and secretary of state from 1988 until his death in 2005. Another prominent political figure and businessman from Columbia was Jack Keahey, a former member and president of the Caldwell Parish School Board and member of the Tensas Basin Levee Board, having served as president from 2000 until his death in 2007.
