Delhi is a town in Richland Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the town population was 3,066. Delhi is the birthplace of country superstar Tim McGraw. He grew up in nearby Start. On February 21, 1971, Louisiana's only recorded F5 tornado struck Delhi. It took forty-six lives. It was the deadliest F5 tornado to hit the United States since the Jackson, Mississippi, Candlestick Park Tornado five years earlier in 1966. Delhi is the home of the wealthy real estate developer Francis C. Thompson, a senior member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, a Democrat, who is considered an authority on development and agriculture.
