Floyds Knobs is a small town in Floyd County, Indiana, United States. Historically, it has been a farming community on the outskirts of New Albany, Indiana but it has become a bedroom community for Louisville, Kentucky. The town was named after Colonel Davis Floyd. The word "knobs" comes from the local terrain. During the last Ice Age, the glaciers advanced south to this area, moving mass amounts of rock and dirt in the process. As one approaches Floyds Knobs from the south, steep hills begin on the northern outskirts of New Albany, Indiana. These hills, or knobs, are the remains of that rock and dirt, at the southernmost point of the glaciers. Paoli Peaks, a local ski resort that takes advantage of these hills, is also near this community.
