Grafton boasts one of the oldest observances of Memorial Day in America. The City of Grafton was chartered in 1856. It is believed, that it is named after John Grafton, a civil engineer of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The first casualty of the Civil War occurred in Grafton.
